I have just completed a 185km run ultramarathon around Lake Simcoe. I had two 10 minute naps and I fell asleep for 1 minute while sitting on a wire. It was an incredible journey of perseverance, knowing how horrible I felt at time and that my cure was to keep moving. Stop stopping was the phrase of the weekend.
I will be posting a follow up video shortly… stay tuned and here is my story:
I grew up with a single mom who did an amazing job but she wanted a consistent male presence for me.
She found Big Brothers and into my life came a generous, supportive, fun and overall amazing man… My Big Brother.
He showed me how he lived his life, his family and the amazing things he had done.
He showed me consistency. He showed me commitment. He showed me understanding and patience.
He was there for me.
I’ve been so grateful for his presence and never knew how to thank him.
As I run around Lake Simcoe, realizing what is truly possible in my life by seeking out new challenges, I realize that by sharing my journey that I may impact some people.
The kids in my family see an adult striving for something bigger.
It reminds me of the impact that my Big Brother left on me.
This is a great opportunity for people to know the amazing things that Big Brothers and Big Sisters do for children and the life long impact it can have.
